This blog is about my client Professional Piping Services, Inc. (PPSI, who is based in Wesley Chapel FL and serves much of Florida, including Orlando,) I've mentioned in some of my writing that PPSI holds an Underground Utility Contractor license. I'd like to be a little more specific today, and write a little be about exactly what the license means.
Specifically, the owner of PPSI is Roger M. Cimbora. He is a Florida Certified Underground Utility and Excavation Contractor. His license number is CU-C055717. Pardon the pun, but let's dig a little deeper into this license. Because Professional Piping Services, Inc. operates in Florida, I'll be discussing Florida only. In order to share this information with you, I needed to educate myself a bit. My web searches led me to the website for Contractor Campus. Contractor Campus' website explained that a Florida Underground Utility and Excavation Contractor provides services in constructing, installing, and repairing piping systems. These might be on public property or may belong to a private individual. The service might include excavation of the area or other methods such as directional drilling, auger boring, trenchless tech and others. The systems which they service may include sanitary sewers, water distribution systems, storm sewers and utility lines from the main system all the way to a customer's meter. The aforementioned website goes into more detail than I'm covering right now.) Services to piping systems which are an integral part of a fire suppression system are not covered by this license. In order to receive a Certified Underground Utility Contractor’s license, Florida requires specific experience and education. The document referenced in my research mentioned five options:
Mr. Cimbora has worked in the industry for over 6 decades! He has authored many papers on the topic of industrial pipe maintenance and has been involved in educating new generations of contractors. If your Orlando Pipe Pigging project calls for a Certified Underground Utility and Excavation Contractor, trust Roger Cimbora of Professional Piping Services, Inc.

I'm writing this for piping professionals in Orlando Florida, but this information is fairly universal.
Often, the first choice for pipe system cleaning is a poly pig, sometimes simply called "Pipe Pig". A pipe pig is a device used to scrub the walls of the pipes. Pipe pigs are available in various diameters from just inches, up to several feet. The surface of the pig that does the actual scrubbing will differ depending on the type of pipe (Steel, Concrete, PVC...) and the debris that needs to be removed. Some of the earliest pigs were straw wrapped in barbed wire. Modern technology has brought them a long way. Speaking of technology, a smart pig, that is, one with sensors and a radio transmitter, may also come in handy to verify and correct the reported location and diameter of pipes and valves, where reality and blueprints disagree. Orlando piping system engineers & managers already know that regardless of if the product is a desirable product, or that the “product” is actually some kind of waste, the pipes must be maintained or they will eventually fail. This failure might come as a gradual reduction of flow over time, or an instant catastrophic failure. Reduced flow of a product that is for sale means less dollars per second. That's bad news for the bean counters. If your system carries waste, reduced flow or a blockage can get really messy really quickly! This can be exacerbated by limited storage on the upstream / supply end. Reduced flow also costs more money in power, running your pumps harder, likely reducing their service life, leading to even more overhead cost. The saying is overused, but true: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. In our case, a little downtime for proper cleaning and maintenance might avoid days or even weeks of downtime due to a complete system failure, and possibly a huge cleanup & recovery to go along with it. HYDRO JET PIPE CLEANING ORLANDO For some systems, a high power water jet will be chosen instead of a poly pig to get the best clean for your pipes. Water jets are applicable to all diameters of pipe by maintaining correct flow and pressure. High Power Water Jetting removes sediment build-up, tree roots, cooking fat, automotive grease, lime / hard water mineral scale, sewage waste and more. Professional Piping Services Inc. can provide a water tank if the needed, or hook up to your own supply. Clean pipes simply flow better. Professional Piping Systems, Inc will help you choose the correct method of pipe cleaning that will work best in your system. QUALIFIED PIPING PROFESSIONAL IN FLORIDA Professional Piping Services Inc's General Manager. Mr Cimbora is a trusted expert in industrial pipe maintenance & flow restoration. The Compressed Gas Association, (CGA), has published directive C.G.A. G-4.1 to lay out special procedures for cleaning equipment used in oxygen service.
Compliance to these standards and procedures is of the highest importance. Oxygen may have a violent reaction to contamination in a piping system or other oxygen handling equipment. Such a reaction could damage or destroy equipment and property and put the lives and well being of those nearby in serious danger. Orlando Oxygen Handling Experts

Just like the rest of the world, residents and the many visitors to Orlando Florida rely on safe, clean drinking water. Who wants to drink water out of dirty clogged pipes? If you are in charge of a municipal water supply or at one of the theme parks nearby, here are some points to reference when beginning the cleaning process. Of course, I'm giving you information about the services that my client, Professional Piping Services, provides and how they use Poly Pigs to get it done.
ORLANDO WATER PIPE CLEANING
Frequently, the cleaning will be done in eight or ten hour blocks, disinfecting the processed pipes and restoring service after each block is finished. In some circumstances where immediate restoration might be required, like a fire protection system, an quick changeover can be prepared. Cleaning time can be influenced by various factors, but generally goes very quickly, often covering a mile of pipe in an 8 to 10 hour block. Today's high standards for drinking water quality mean that once you've got your pipes clean, you won't likely need to repeat this process.

If you are in Orlando Florida and it's your responsibility to care for the pipes owned by your company or municipal agency, there may come a time that your piping system, or a part of it, is found to be a mis-match from the written design. You might have the desire to track down the original designers and contractors and give them a piece of your mind, but what you know you have to do is track down the pipes.
Is it time to get out the shovels or even the backhoe? Maybe not! Enter "Sherlock Pig". I've covered Pipe Pigging in other articles, but in short it's a plug like device that fits inside the piping system and is able to pass through it. The tracking pig or "detector pig", in our case called "Sherlock", contains a transmitter that allows it's position to be monitored. It can be used to track mystery legs, identify valves and re-map the entire piping system. It can be used to confirm suspected blockages, find size disparities and leaks. Sherlock and it's related pigs, Watson and Little Piggy, can be used in just about any pipe, including underwater pipe and subterranean pipes, detecting their position and depth. Professional Piping Services, Inc. has the experience and knowledge to help with smart pig pipe mapping as well as pipe pigging for cleaning and maintenance. Piping System operators in Orlando Florida have options when it comes to keeping their pipes clean. One of those options is pipe pigging. The petroleum industry has used pipe pigs in it's large diameter pipes for several years. Smaller diameter pigs are becoming more common now and are often used in both continuous process and batch process systems. Pipe pigs help plant operators find an increase in efficiency and a reduction in costs.
One might think of a pipe pig as a "plug" that moves along inside the pipe, scraping the inside wall as it goes along. This helps in cleaning, or in product purging. A pipe pig can be used in almost any section of pipe including pipes between blending, holding or filling systems. Systems in many industries can be fitted with a pipe pig system. They have been used with products such as paint, chemical, toiletries, cosmetics, edibles and even sewage. Pigs can be used in batch processes to empty the pipes between batches, or even run backward to return unused product to it's tank. This is usually done at the end of a batch or between batches. Your Orlando Florida Pipe system may require pigging for cleaning and maintenance, but you might also need the services of a "Smart Pig". Smart pigs are used to inspect the pipes from the inside. They can be used to identify sections in need of repair and can be used to re-map pipes whose final build doesn't actually match the design as it was on paper. A pipe pig causes little to no interruption in service and minimal product loss at the extraction point. Pipe pigs cannot pass butterfly or reduced port valves. Full port/ full bore ball valves do not cause an issue as they accomdate the same diameter pig as the pipe. Why are they called "Pigs"? The original Pipe Pigs included wire which scrapped the sides of the pipe as it passed. This scraping caused a squealing sound, similar to swine, granting its porcine name. It has also been given a "Backronym" of either "Pipeline Inspection Gauge" or "Pipeline Intervention Gadget". Businesses in Orlando, like the rest of Florida, must do all they can to protect our environment. That obviously means preventing contamination. It also means conserving resources as much as possible. Professional Pipe Pigging can play a significant role in reducing the impact of batch operations. Without a pig, a batch process that handles different products for each batch would require water, solvent or the next product to be used to clear the line between batches. Each of these options generated waste. A modern pigging system can reclaim the unused portion of the prior batch while clearing the line for the new batch. It's a win all the way around! If your Orlando pipe system is in need of cleaning, inspection or you need to consider a batch pigging system, Contact Professional Piping Services, Inc. Thinking about the massive water consumption of highly populated areas like the Orlando, Florida area can make one wonder how they keep the water not only flowing but clean, to residents and the tens of thousands of tourists visiting yearly. With theme parks like Disney World, Sea World and Universal Studios to the Outlet Malls in Kissimmee to the scores of local restaurants and resorts along International Drive or US 192 alone, one can only imagine the amount of clean water needed to service the greater Orlando area.
Raw water piping systems are most important to maintain and clean. These types of water piping systems supply water to be treated for consumption to residents nearby. The Orlando raw water piping systems are at the mercy of physical and chemical elements of the water they carry. It's natural for piping systems to accumulate buildup over time. For health & efficient flow, raw water piping systems cleaning and restoration should follow a regular maintenance schedule. Their flow condition will reflect the changes over time. A preventive maintenance program can prevent problems by helping you maintain your raw water system properly. Knowing the ongoing needs of your system and taking action to meet those needs will enhance public health protection, improve your system’s reliability, and reduce the costs of maintaining your water system whether your a city planner or small business owner or home owner. One specialized technology used to treat these pipelines utilizes Pipeline Pigs, devices that are propelled through the line to clear and clean debris from the internal bore. Pigs can be used for cleaning over long distances which increases the level of cost-effectiveness against other cleaning methods. The results from cleaning the same pipe section employing pipe pigging are exceptional. The levels of suspended solids, COD and other impurities removed from the line are typically many times greater than those achieved by Flushing or Air Scouring. While costs associated with Pipeline Pigging ca be higher than the other methods, the net cost is superior as the frequency of cleaning cycles is significantly reduced due to the high levels of cleanliness achieved. Another trusted method of cleaning is high pressure water jet. In the HP water jetting process, flushing water is pumped from a water tank by means of a high pressure pump through a hose with a cleaning nozzle at the end. The cleaning nozzle is equipped with holes with nozzle inserts, which focus the fast flowing water jets and direct them toward the pipe interior. Here’s more detail about some of the benefits hygienic pigging and high pressure water jetting can deliver to your business, community or city: Increased Profits, Productivity and Efficiency Benefits Put simply, because pigging systems and water jetting help you recover more useable product from your processes, you have more product available for use or sale. There are lower labor costs and shortened down times associated with pipe pigging and HP water jetting, making them a smart choice for any raw water pipe maintenance needs. High Return on Investment (ROI) Because they massively reduce waste and increase yields along with productivity and efficiency, pigging systems and water jetting can deliver a high return on investment. Higher Product Yields Increased product yield is one of the most common reasons organizations use a pigging system or HP water jetting. Higher product yield means more product ready for consumption, for use or for sale. Dirty or clogged pipes don't allow free flowing water or fluids through them. Industrial pipe jetting in Orlando can clean and clear dirty, blocked, or congealed pipes. Pipe jetting in Orlando is a done with a high pressure tool (jet) with a nozzle that is inserted into the drain or pipeline to clear it.
The jet is constructed to bore through the blocks in the pipeline. Pipe jetting in Orlando can clear sewer or drain clogs. The high pressure tool clears root blocks and the rear jets help to clean the pipeline thoroughly. Low flowing pipes can cause backups and pipe bursts. If the product within the pipes is wastewater or other contaminants bursts can become a serious health risk. This can cost money in other ways too. A blocked pipeline puts wear and tear on pumps that may be attached to the system. This in turn raises electrical usage and raises billing costs. Keeping the pipes clean and well maintained consists of using pipe jetting in Orlando. Storm sewer lines can gather dirt, leaves, and other debris. A pipe jetting service in Orlando can power through the sewer lines and remove all debris that has gathered in the storm drains and piping system. Regular cleaning of these pipelines is required for them to continue to work properly. Backed up storm sewer lines can create disasters on top of disasters. Grease, oil, and other substances can build up along the interior walls of piping systems and cause slow or no flow problems. Pipe jetting in Orlando can resolve these issues. Hydro pipe jetting in Orlando may consist of a spinning spout that easily cuts through the grease and grime. A higher temperature of water may be used for pipe jetting in Orlando when grease or other oily substances are in the piping system. This helps break up the substances and creates a sandy residue. The residue is whisked away with the high pressure pipe jets so further blockages can not occur downstream in the pipes. Pipe systems that have product moving through them on a daily basis should be checked and professionally cleaned on a regular basis. This helps prevent slow flow and complete blockages. Many wait until they have a completely blocked system before calling a professional knowledgeable about pipe jetting in Orlando. This can cause unnecessary damage to your pipes and cause electrical costs to rise. When slow draining is first noticed a pipe jetting company in Orlando should be consulted with. To save time and money in the long run it's suggested to consult with an industrial pipe jetting company in Orlando. They will be able to test your pipes, clean them, and whisk away the internal dirt, debris, or other substance that may be blocking the flow in your system. Whether it's pipes in a home, storm drains, or business location proper flow can be accomplished. Backed up drains can be costly and time consuming if they are not properly maintained by pipe jetting in Orlando. Orlando Industrial Pipe Cleaning ProfessionalsClean pipes allow for smooth flow through the complete plumbing system. An efficient flow keeps costs down by running the product without extra stress on pumps and other system components. Piping system maintenance can keep the piping system running efficiently. Knowing when to use an Orlando industrial pipe cleaning service is important. No matter what type of product is moving through an industrial piping system, buildup happens. If the build up isn't treated or cleaned it can cause flow problems, blockages, backups and storage issues. This can cause further degradation if an Orlando industrial pipe cleaning professional isn't used. Slow flow within your industrial piping system can cause pumps to work overtime to make up for the problem. This is costly considering the extra electrical output to meet overworked pumps and stressed flow demands. Not to mention, the added wear to the whole industrial piping system. If the build up is left too long complete failure can occur, slowing down the whole of the production. Hydro Jet Pipe Cleaning OrlandoHydro jetting, or sewer jetting is a high pressure method of pipe cleaning. Water jetting cleans pipes and clears away buildup and debris from industrial pipes. This can include roots, cooking grease, automotive oils, mineral scale, and other materials that clog up the piping system. Corrosion in Orlando industrial piping systems can be hydro jetted to prevent buildup. Hydro jetting is an effective cleaning method for a wide range of pipe sizes. Professional Piping Services Inc. can use an onsite water supply or bring a portable tank to the location.Orlando Pipe Pigging ServicesPipe pigging services in Orlando offer another solution for scrubbing piping systems clean. Industrial Pipe Cleaning Orlando
Professional Piping Services, Inc., has been in the professional piping system maintenance business for over 40 years. No matter if your pipes are bamboo, porcelain, copper, lead, steel or concrete. Pipes always get dirty. Dirty pipes mean dirty product. Even if the "product" is wastewater or other effluvia, you're not immune. Dirty pipes carry less flow. In a gravity system, this might manifest in backups and flooding. In a pumped system, you might see these symptoms, plus excess wear and tear on your pumps and higher energy bills as these pumps work harder to move, or try to move, the same amount of fluid. The conventional method of dealing with a clogged pipe was to dig up a section, or even the entire system, and install new pipes. This is expensive, time consuming and inconvenient. If your system is in a large city like Orlando, Fl, you're likely to have pipes running under municipal, residential and commercial property. This brings headaches and higher costs. Now there's an alternative. Professional Piping Services, Inc can help restore your piping system to it's full flow without the digging up the neighborhood. Their decades of working with systems that went wrong helps them quickly identify whatever problem your pipes have developed, and they will offer the most cost effective solution, minimizing expenses like pipe modification & downtime.
